During the five-week season from July 4 - August 6, 2010, campers will have the opportunity to select special programs in place of a regular weekly schedule.
Nature Immersion - Weeks 1 & 2 (July 4 - 16): A hands-on, inquiry-based study of the natural world that uses the five senses to investigate the wonders of Creation at the camp, nearby parks, rivers and beaches. Campers (ages 7 to 13, grouped by age) will:
- Explore Long Island's aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and geology in shoreline, salt marsh, woods, dunes and pine barren habitats.
- Learn concepts such as web of life, biodiversity, stewardship and the use of natural materials for survival needs, including primitive technology skills, such as flint knapping, bow drill and rope making.
Jeff Gottlieb, facilitator, has an M.S. in biology, and is a teacher and workshop presenter in the greater NY area. Named NYS Outdoor Educator of the Year 2007, he has authored two books on primitive technologies, built a wigwam at the camp and is developing a nature museum.
Jazz Workshop - Weeks 3 and 4 (July 18 - 30): A performance-oriented program for campers with at least two years of playing experience and the ability to read music and play major and minor scales. Students must bring an instrument in good working order or arrange to borrow one by contacting the camp office by July 12th. Program includes:

Music theory, ear training, exploration and application of simple jazz scales and patterns, and improvisation on basic chord progressions through daily warm-ups, rehearsals and coaching.

A performance on the final day, Friday, July 30, which family and friends are invited to attend.
John Barnett, facilitator, has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe with such artists as Aretha Franklin and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, he is a composer and arranger, flute, clarinet and saxophone player and the author of a jazz curriculum, currently teaching at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville.
Marine Science Enrichment Program - Week 5 (August 1 – 6): In collaboration with Eastern Suffolk BOCES for ages 10-13, this five-day program includes daily excursions to investigate various marine habitats. Campers will:

Catch critters and fish, use seining nets, swim at an ocean beach, and learn the human history of the marine environment.

Attend evening classes to investigate the day's discoveries, using a projector to pro-vide a larger than life view.

Identify species, their habitats, and adaptations, as well as make seaweed prints and other nature crafts.
Sailing - (July 5 - August 6): In a program that emphasizes safety and fun, taught by a certi-fied US SAILING instructor on the camp's Long Island Sound beachfront using our fleet of sunfish and dinghy sailboats, campers who pass a deep water swimming test will be eligible to enroll in one week sailing classes, which are three hours in length. Campers will learn:

Basic sailing maneuvers.

Boating safety.

Seamanship skills.

Basic terminology.
The waterfront is staffed by the camp's Waterfront Director, instructors, lifeguards, and first aid personnel, in accordance with American Camp Association and Suffolk County Health Department guidelines.
Other Programs:
Servants for God - Weeks 1-5 (July 4 - August 6): Weeklong programs emphasizing community service and leadership. Campers (ages 14-15) are offered:
- CPR/Lifeguard training.
- Survival skills.
- Trips.
- Opportunities to assist with regular camp activities.
Counselors in Training (Ages 16-17): Youth with previous camp or community service experience are invited to apply for internships and training programs in preparation for becoming staff members.
