[Dominion Article, May 2007] With summer just around the
corner, the retreat center facility
is busy on weekends with church
and community visits and on
many weekdays with environmental
education for school groups.
As we prepare for “Pathways
to Peace,” our 2007 summer camp
season, we invite the diocesan
community to come out to camp
to celebrate our 60th anniversary
by participating in the many
events listed on our spring
calendar. Please note
especially our retreat on stewardship
of “this fragile earth,
our island home”: “Creation-Friendly
Life,” the work weekends for
parishes, individuals, and youth
groups (community service credits
are possible), the June 9th
Tea Party at St. George’s in
Hempstead, and the Mid-Summer
Family Weekend on July 20-22
for parishes, families, and
friends.
Parish Visits: As of
early April, we have planned
or have visited the following
parishes: St. John’s, Huntington,
Church of the Resurrection,
Williston Park, St. Ann’s, Sayville,
Church of the Advent, Westbury,
and Church of St. Mark, Brooklyn.
We are grateful for the
warm welcome and interest extended
by people of all ages and encourage
other parishes to extend an
invitation for a presentation
about all our programs.
Family Weekend on July 20-22:
Please join us for a wonderful
mid-summer family weekend timed
just right to catch the beauty
and delight of shoreline and
woods at the height of summer.
Relax, enjoy the fellowship
of old and new friends, swim,
beach-comb, explore the charming
North Fork countryside, gaze
at a myriad of stars under a
clear sky. Join in sports
and games, take an interpretive
nature walk, canoe trip or express
yourself through arts &
crafts. Worship, sing,
drum, and dance! Learn
about ecology, fire building,
join a discussion group or climb
to the heights on our challenge
course and climbing wall.
We will offer a
variety of activities each day
for children, adults, and families.
Choose to participate
in as many as you like, or just
relax at the beach, pool or
on a shaded porch with a spectacular
view of the Sound. Please
